School

Yay, school started today! (not!)

Unfortunately, there was no way I could put in that cooking class (I tried!).

Along with my French, I am starting to take Spanish, so maybe I will learn some new recipes there :)

I will try to post when I can, but this year will probably be very busy! (2 sports, 2 languages, 4 advanced classes)

Cross Country starts tomorrow. With a 2nd place Heptathalon athlete as our coach, let the games begin!

Information on... Popcorn!

What starts with "p" and ends with "orn"? POPCORN of course!

Most popcorn bought in microwavable pouches contains dairy, so vegans cant eat it. However, it is very easy to make popcorn on your own, on the stovetop.

All you need is some unpopped kernals (sold in supermarkers, co-ops etc usually in the snack isle or baking goods isle) and canola oil.

The hardest part about making popcorn on the stove (without a popcorn maker) is that very few kernals make a lot of popcorn. If you put to many kernals in, the lid will come off and you'll have a very big mess (it happened to me my first time). I did all the guesswork so you'll make the PERFECT amount of corn for your pan :)

Here's the simplest way to make popcorn in a saucepan:

1) Put 2 TBS of canola oil in a 2-quart saucepan, high heat.
2) Add 3 1/2 TBS of unpopped kernals to the saucepan and cover.
3) Once corn starts to pop, lower heat to medium/medium-high, and vigorously shake pan every few seconds so that the corn doesnt burn.
4) Once all corn is popped (it will fill right up to the lid and you wont hear very many popping sounds) remove from heat and pour into a large bowl.
5. Optional: In the pan heat some EarthBalance or other vegan spread and pour over popcorn. (You can also add semi-sweet chips, yum!)

The best part about making popcorn at home is that you can control the salt and fat content. Also, the kernals pop VERY quickly. Once they start popping it only take 30 seconds for them all to be popped. (Unlike microwave popcorn, where all the kernals are in there for 3 or 4 minutes and by the time they all pop half your popcorn is burnt.)

Best of all, homemade popcorn tastes the freshest!

Happy popping!

Goal Completed

One of my summer goals is completed! Since creation, I've gotten over 6,000 visitors to my site. Back late June, I had around 3,000 and my goal was to double what I'd gotten in 5 months in 2 months!

Thanks everyone!

Garlic Bread

I made this while in Nova Scotia... YUMMY!

I suggest no kissing or intimate moments after eating this unless you are dracula-phobic

Ingredients:

8 Slices of Thick Italian Bread
1/2 to 3/4 cup of Vegan Margerine (EarthBalance, Soy Garden, etc)
5 cloves of garlic, minced

1) Preheat oven to broil (if available, choose "Low" broil)
2) In a bowl, mix the minced garlic and the margerine)
3) Spread the mixture evenly on all the slices of bread
4) Put in oven and broil until bread is crisp and is brown around edges

I'm home... For good!

I'm back home now.

WOW, camp was fun! I learned a lot about skating and the whole subculture. I got hurt a lot, my knees are scabbed, calves are bruised, my leg is twisted, but no broken bones!

I'm still really tired and I need to get back into the "groove" of being home. I've gone over my text limit and will probably have to pay 300 dollars in overcharges (I'm trying to get a plan where its unlimited to Verizon since thats what everyone has up here)

The camp posts pics online, so when they are up I'll post the ones of me.
