I made this last night, and it was gone by tonight! Its sooo good, and very simple.
Ingredients (Pizza):
Frozen Pizza Crust
Olive Oil
Tomato sauce or paste
Minced Garlic (dried)
Oregano
Basil
Topping Selection:
Red onion
Bell peppers
Faux pepperoni
Pepperoncini
Tomato slices
Olives
Faux chicken/beef strips
etc
1) Lay the pizza crust on a pan. Brush a layer of olive oil over the entire crust. Sprinkle the dried, minced garlic on the crust (especially the outsides).
2) Spread the crust with the tomato sauce/paste. Leave at least a 1/2 inch margin along the outsides of the crust. Sprinkle oregano and basil over the sauce.
3) Add your choice of toppings to the pizza. Red onion slices are always delicious.
4) Cook for 8-12 minutes.
Voila! An amazing, simple, quick vegan cheese-less pizza! I've noticed that vegan soy cheese does not taste good (to truly melt it need casein, a milk derived protein that is NOT vegan). The crust will be lovely and have a hint of garlic to it. The dried minces cook well and seep in to the pizza. You can try fresh, but it will most likely be way to strong and wont cook in 8-12 minutes.

We often prefer our veg pizzas without the vegan cheese too!! Just because if we have great toppings like roasted veg, we really want to savour those flavors rather than the vegan cheese! Follow Your Heart brand melts pretty well, but VeganRella gets very runny and sticky (though we like it for some things).
Mr. liggett - not all prepared crusts are 'bad'. You can get whole-wheat pizza crusts, partial whole-wheat crusts, and most of these have wholesome ingredients and no hydrogenated oils. Just requires shopping sometimes in whole foods markets or health food freezer sections of grocery stores.
Most pizza crusts are vegan. My local pizza shop is, and the ones I buy are. Its a sourdough one, and its 100% vegan ceritfied.
It's wonderful to hear about young people so into good health and global consciousness. We have a wonderful food co-op in our city that is a meeting place as much as a food store. Keep up the good work.
Being vegan, I like cheeseless pizzas and tomato pies as well. I find though if I am craving that cheese taste, I breakout the Vegan Gourmet Cheese. I usually grate it and then freeze it because it doesn't keep long in the fridge and will actually get a red mold and smell really bad. When I need it for anything, I melt it in a saucepan with a splash of water and when it gets thick I pour it over my already baked pizza. It sets really nicely and makes it look like a real pizza. It is awesome cause it adds that kick of flavor that you can only get from fat. Forunately, it's unsaturated fat and not saturated or trans fat.
I almost gave up on cheese substitutes before I ran into Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella (Follow Your Heart Brand). Any other tastes rather nasty. Hope this helps.
Wow !
Im not a vegan, but that really does sound lovely !
People who can actually live with out animal products at all, inspire me.. especially when what they do make sounds so absolutley yummo !!!
:)
Steve.
Thank you for giving us this recipe. I love pizza, but I am allergic to wheat, milk, and cheese, so all I'm left with is the toppings. I found a pizza crust mix made from rice in the natural food store where I shop. And I can do everything else. I just needed the cheese, but can't have it. I can't wait to try your recipe. I can do without the cheese as long as it's moist. And your recipe sounds like it would be moist.
What a wonderful post. I love the taste of animal products and have eaten them all my life. I gave it the good college try to become vegan and couldn't believe how much lighter I felt and how excess weight is coming off. Those 2 observations alone spurred me to keep tweaking old favorites. The cheeseless pizza is the next thing I'm going to try, thanks to your encouraging post!
mmm sounds good :)
and healthy!
I encourage everyone to try fleischmann's pizza dough yeast. The ingredient given on the packet is VEGAN ( for the dough ) and plus tastes YUMMY with all different types of herbs and spices added to the dough. The lovely thing about this yeast is that it's no rise, so it takes just about 30 minutes to prepare ( it does rise in the oven, it just contains enzymes and dough relaxers to help it rise in the oven without prep time.. you don't have to leave it to rise before, just stir in the ingredients, press the dough and in ya go! ) if you want a quick pizza fix that is, there's nothin' better ;)
